Journal Entry 4: Laws of Exponents part 2

To square a number means to multiply a number with itself twice. To cube a number means to multiply a number by itself three times. Exponents relate to finding an area because exponents are used in the the formula for finding the area. For example, the formula for finding the area of a square is s^2, so if s is 4, then the problem is 4^2. so I am multiplying 4 by itself twice, so the answer is 16.

Journal Entry 3 : Intergal exponents

We cannot simplify expressions that do no contain like terms. x^2y and xy^2 are not like terms because x^2y means x to the second power multiply by y and xy^2 means x multiply by y to the second power so x and y are in being squared in both of the expression but in different places. xy is not the same as xyz because the expression xy is not being multiply by z, so we cannot combine. The power of m^7 is m multiplying itself seven times . 7 is the power and m is the base. If x was the base, then the negative base is -x. A real life scenario involving exponents is in science. In science, when doing experiments, we use exponents for formulas.

Journal Entry 2: "Unlike Terms"

X is different from x^2 because x^2 is being squared and x is by itself. We can combine terms that have the same exponent because they are similar and are like terms. Some things we can do to remember how to add and subtract integers are by remembering and using K.F.C. Yes, 8m-2m is the same as 8m+-2m. Coefficient is the number in front of the variable that tells us how many variables we have. Coefficients are important because the coefficient tells us the number of variables we have.

Journal Entry"Like Terms"

The definition of like terms is an expression using terms with the same variables. Yes, 100p and 3000p are like terms that can be combine since they both have the same variable. No, P and P^2 are not like terms and cannot be combine. We cannot combine 2d+2f because they do not have the same variables. An expression cannot have an equal sign because then it will become an equation. Perimeter is the distance around a shape.
